On the afternoon of April 15, 2026, the School of Foreign Languages held a special work meeting on high-quality development in the conference room of the Foreign Languages Building. The meeting focused on thoroughly studying and implementing the university’s strategic plans and systematically mapping out the School’s high-quality development path for the “15th Five-Year Plan” period. Attendees included the School’s leadership, members of the Professors’ Committee, doctoral supervisors, heads of all departments (teaching and research sections) and centers, Party Secretary of party branches, teaching and research secretaries, and key research personnel.
At the beginning of the meeting, Li Tao, the Secretary of the School’s Party Committee, gave a speech. He emphasized that the “15th Five-Year Plan” period represents a critical opportunity for the School to seize momentum and achieve leapfrog development. The special high-quality development initiative is not only a political task to implement the university’s decisions and deployments, but also an inherent requirement for advancing the School’s connotative development. He called on all faculty and staff to fully appreciate the great significance of this endeavor and, with a strong sense of responsibility and mission, contribute their wisdom and strength to the School’s long-term development.
Yang Wendi, Dean of the School, delivered a report on the School’s “15th Five-Year Plan,” offering an in-depth analysis across three dimensions: the opportunities and challenges during the period, the goals for high-quality development, and the key tasks and measures to achieve them. The report provided a comprehensive overview of the strategic opportunities arising from the new round of technological revolution, the deepening reform of higher education, and the accelerating integration of interdisciplinary fields. At the same time, he assessed the real challenges ahead, including intensifying competition for talent and increasingly tight resource constraints in the report. It clearly set forth the overall goal for the School’s high-quality development during the “15th Five-Year Plan” period: to achieve breakthroughs in discipline development, talent cultivation, scientific research, and social services, thereby significantly enhancing the School’s core competitiveness and academic influence. Centered on this goal, the report outlined key tasks and concrete measures, including strengthening distinctive disciplinary advantages, deepening educational and teaching reforms, building a high-level faculty team, enhancing research and innovation capacity, and expanding international cooperation and exchanges, so as to ensure that the plan can produce results.
Members of the School’s leadership, Li Tao, Zhong Wenming, and Yan Hongfu, then elaborated on relevant aspects of the plan by drawing on recent university meetings and their responsibilities. Attendees had a heated group discussion on the plan’s goals and key tasks, and all departments will conduct further discussions and follow-up arrangements on the related content.
Yang Wendi stressed that achieving high-quality development at the School is a systematic endeavor requiring the entire School to pull together and forge ahead with an enterprising spirit, so that high-quality planning can steer the goal of high-quality development. He called on all faculty and staff to unite in thought and action, build on the consensus reached at this special work meeting, further refine the division of tasks, set clear timelines, and strengthen accountability to ensure that every measure in the plan is fully and faithfully implemented, writing a new chapter in the School’s development with concerted efforts.
