Implementation Measures for Undergraduate Teaching Supervision

I. The Undergraduate Teaching Supervision Group of the School of Foreign Languages (hereinafter referred to as the "Supervision Group") is a professional body responsible for supervising undergraduate teaching quality and development. As an essential component of the School’s teaching quality assurance system, the Group carries out inspection, supervision, guidance, evaluation, and consultation regarding undergraduate teaching.
II. The Supervision Group operates under the principles of “learner-centered education, promoting teaching and learning through supervision, fostering mutual enhancement between instruction and learning, and improving overall quality.” The ultimate goal is to facilitate faculty professional development and enhance instructional quality.
III. The Supervision Group consists of 11 members, including one Chair and one Secretary. The Group operates under the leadership of the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.
IV. Members of the Supervision Group shall meet the following criteria:
(1) Uphold the Party’s basic line and demonstrate a strong commitment to education;
(2) Maintain impartiality and fairness, possess a strong sense of responsibility, and maintain professional integrity;
(3) Possess advanced educational philosophies, be familiar with national educational policies and higher education principles, and remain informed about trends in higher education reform;
(4) Hold the academic rank of associate professor or above, have over 10 years of experience in undergraduate teaching, and demonstrate strong capabilities in pedagogical research;
(5) Demonstrate strong organizational, coordination, and communication skills;
(6) Be in good health and willing to contribute.
V. Members of the Supervision Group are appointed for two-year terms and may be reappointed for consecutive terms based on their health and work status. The appointment shall be terminated if a member is unable to fulfill their duties for any reason, or if their conduct during supervisory activities results in adverse effects.
VI. Primary responsibilities of the Supervision Group:
(1) Organizing faculty development training sessions, providing guidance for teaching competitions, and promoting the professional development of faculty members;
(2) Inspecting and evaluating routine classroom instruction and practical teaching activities.
VII. Working systems and requirements:
(1) At the beginning of each semester, a supervision meeting shall be convened to assign classroom observation and evaluation tasks in accordance with the School’s academic schedule;
(2) In principle, each supervisor should conduct at least two classroom observations per month on average;
(3) Supervisors shall engage in thorough communication with instructors following each observation. Any identified issues should be discussed with the instructor, providing them with an opportunity to respond;
(4) Evaluation forms must be submitted promptly after each observation. At the end of the semester, supervisors shall compile evaluation feedback, calculate observation workload, and draft a work summary for the Chair's review.
VIII. Compensation shall be provided by the School based on actual workload.
IX. These measures shall take effect on November 9, 2023. The School of Foreign Languages shall be responsible for the interpretation of these measures.
