The School of Foreign Languages at Central South University (CSU) has been approved to establish the Hunan Provincial Research Base for Cultural Translation and International Communication of the Chinese National Community. This initiative advances research on strengthening the sense of community for the Chinese nation and implements the guiding principles of ethnic work in the new era.
Forging a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation represents a major theoretical innovation by the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core. Responding to General Secretary Xi’s important speech during his visit to CSU and the national strategy for ethnic unity, the School mobilized resources across the New Liberal Arts and successfully applied for this provincial-level research platform. The Hunan Provincial Ethnic and Religious Affairs Commission recently approved the proposal.
The Research Base integrates expertise in Chinese cultural studies, international language education, classical translation, area studies, and natural language processing. Its research focuses on three priority areas: translating ethnic classics and constructing the image of the Chinese national community; promoting Hunan’s ethnic minority cultures internationally; and developing big-data-driven discourse strategies for targeted international communication.
The Center advances the international narrative of Chinese national identity and promotes fine traditional Chinese culture and ethnic minority heritage. It provides intellectual support for key theoretical questions, cultivates interdisciplinary talent for national and regional development, and contributes to building archives, discourse frameworks, theoretical foundations, and international communication systems in this field.
